Janga residents ask the government to finish the Nasia-Janga abandoned Road.
The abandoned Janga-Nasia road needs to be finished, say the residents of Janga in West Mamprusi Municipality in the North East Region, so their economic activities can be improved.
According to the locals, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia held a sod-cutting ceremony in 2017 to begin construction of the road, but nothing has been done since.
Since 2017, the road connecting the two communities and others in the region has been moving slowly.
Although it was stated that the road will be finished in a year, it is currently not being used.
The contractor laid the gravel from Nasia to Janga, but only paved the first section from Nasia to Nakpaya, which was just 1 km in Janga township and 6 km from Nasia town, leaving the middle of the road unpaved and full of potholes.
The contractor has been away from the site for about a year, according to the locals, and the government should think about bringing him back.
They also mentioned that the contractor left the job site without leaving any equipment behind to indicate that he would return to finish the job.
The residents' request was submitted to the President during a vibrant Damma Festival that Naa Maligu Natomah Seidu, the head of the Soo Traditional Region, had organised. utilising the slogan "Mobilising together for sustainable development."
The community's youth, as represented by their secretary Seidu Ibrahim, pleaded with the government to think about repairing the road in order to boost local economic activity.
"We want the government to intervene and make sure that Janga to Nasia's lone road gets finished. Economic activity are being affected.
"And the other town roads that have been initiated, we want the government to come in and make sure that they are completed," Seidu Ibrahim stated.
He emphasised that everytime it rains, the route is impassable.
"It is not driveable when it rains. In order to make the town roads motorable, we are pleading with the government to come and work on the major road, he said.
In order to improve the delivery of high-quality healthcare, they also ask the government to grant the only polyclinic in the region hospital status.
