Liverpool requests VAR audio from the goal that was disallowed due to Luis Diaz
Liverpool has requested audio of the conversations between the match officials during Saturday's 2-1 loss to Tottenham from PGMOL.
A mistaken decision to rule a Luis Diaz score offside was not reversed by the video assistant referee.
PGMOL, the organisation that regulates referees, stated that it was "a significant human error" that led to the goal being disallowed.
The Reds stated that the explanation was "unacceptable" and that "sporting integrity has been undermined" in a statement they issued on Sunday.
The club demanded a "review with full transparency" and stated they will "explore the range of options available given the clear need for escalation and resolution".
Due to the error, Darren England, who was on duty as a VAR during the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and assistant VAR Dan Cook were relieved of their duties for the remainder of the weekend.
PGMOL said that the two VAR officials acted improperly after Diaz's goal in the 34th minute was incorrectly disallowed for offside. At that point, the score was still 0-0, and Liverpool had 10 players left after Curtis Jones had been dismissed as a result of England's involvement.
PGMOL stated that the Diaz incident "was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention" in a statement made public after the contentious game.
According to reports, Liverpool and the chief of referees Howard Webb discussed the situation.
In an effort to promote transparency, Webb made an appearance on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports last season to demonstrate the VAR system using both correct and bad judgements. This allowed viewers to hear the match officials' comments for the first time.
Six audio recordings of Premier League matches from this season have been made public, including the penalty appeal made by Wolves when Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana clashed with attacker Sasa Kalajdzic and the dismissal of Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk for a foul on Alexander Isak of Newcastle.
