USA defeated Ghana 4-0 in a friendly in Nashville, humiliating the inept Black Stars
In their second friendly of the October international window, the Black Stars of Ghana were completely destroyed by the United States of America (USA).
The Americans put on a hilarious first-half display, scoring four unanswered goals in the first 40 minutes of the match, with Giovanni Reyna scoring twice.
Reyna gave the USA the lead in the 10th minute by taking advantage of yet another shoddy defensive effort by the Black Stars.
After Timothy Weah was fouled in the box in the 19th minute, Christian Pulisic of AC Milan scored from the penalty spot to double the lead.
The third goal was added quickly as Weah forced rookie Jerome Opoku into a mistake and then assisted Folarin Balogun in making the score three.
Ghana's situation could have been worse in the 30th minute, but Abdul Manaf Nurudeen graciously saved the day after Balogun's close-range header.
Five minutes later, Nurudeen was called back into action when he stopped Pulisic from increasing his day's total.
Reyna scored his second goal of the match and the USA's fourth in the 40th minute. The Borussia Dortmund player scored from a well-executed free kick.
A minute after conceding, Mohammed Kudus registered Ghana's first attempt on goal during the October international break, forcing Matt Turner into a superb save.
Hughton made one change during the break, switching Gideon Mensah for Kingsley Schindler.
In the second half of the game, neither team demonstrated much effort to attack.
The USA won the match thanks to the four goals they scored in the first half.
Chris Hughton made six alterations to the roster for the match against Mexico, starting Nurudeen, Alidu Seidu, Jerome Opoku, Edmund Addo, Jordan Ayew, and Inaki Williams.
Ghana loses two games during the international break after falling to Mexico 0-2 during the weekend.
Hughton has now lost his second straight game in command after going undefeated in his previous five matches.
Prior to departing for Ivory Coast in January for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the four-time African champions will regroup next month when they start the qualifying rounds for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
